Are there any companies that recover methanol off-gases for use as gas for coking furnaces? How is that system performing?
What does coking return flue gas mean? Inert gas only does not accumulate at the discharge point; burning it to produce steam is also an option.
The released gas contains a high amount of hydrogen, so it may not burn easily, but recovering the hydrogen is much better. I’m afraid it’s not used very often in this way
A portion of our off-gas is used as feed gas for pressure swing adsorption to extract hydrogen; Another portion is used as recycled gas.

It’s the same as ours, but no significant benefit in terms of returns has been seen.
Our company uses part of the off-gas as energy for coal humidification equipment to generate heat; another portion is sent to boilers for combustion, and any excess is burned in flares. We have not tried using it to produce recycled gas. The gas goes directly into use as recycled gas without any desulfurization process after passing through the fans, and the cost of desulfurization is quite high
Coal humidification can recover coking flue gas, which has a temperature of around 230 degrees and also contains a significant amount of heat. If the material is sent back to the furnace without desulfurization, what will happen if the SO2 levels in the flue gas exceed the limits? It’s a matter of environmental protection! ! Desulfurization can increase by-products, which might help reduce costs a bit.
Logically, the vent gas is much cleaner than coke oven gas; mainly, its calorific value is nearly half that of coke oven gas. The main concern with using vent gas as fuel in coke ovens is that it may prevent the oven temperature from rising enough.
Here, we recover methanol off-gas for use as gas for the coking furnace, and the results are quite good.
