Strictly speaking, there is no inherent relationship between the size of the separator and the heat exchange area; it is only related to the evaporation intensity, that is, the amount of secondary steam generated per unit time. There are various methods for designing separators, with no unified standard; some calculations are based on the direct evaporation rate, that is, the amount of steam produced per unit of time, while others use formulas that take into account the steam velocity, the density at corresponding pressures, and the density of the liquid.
