This post was last edited by GSP on 2012-2-22 at 21:38. Basic requirements to avoid severe slagging in boilers: 1. The ash content and sulfur content in coal should not be too high； 2. The coal powder should not be too coarse ； 3. Coal ash should have a high melting point; generally, the softening temperature (ST) of such ash should be greater than 1350°C. In particular, it is necessary to avoid using short coking coal with a low ash melting point, as burning such coal most easily leads to severe slagging. It is generally advisable to choose coal types for which atmospheric conditions have a minor impact on the fusibility of coal ash; since the properties of such ash are less affected by fluctuations in operating conditions, this contributes to stable combustion in the boiler.
I’ve cleaned ash out of boilers; the tubes of those heat exchangers were covered in ash, and it was very difficult to clean them
