We have a Shengyu 2MCL456 compressor, with tilting shaft bearings and forced lubrication; the oil pressure is around 1.5 kilograms. I would like to ask if frequent shaft turning can cause damage to the bearing shells? How to explain it? Thank you
No, manual cranking is a normal operation.
The automatic crankcase oil pump only needs to be running; manual cranking is allowed, and intermittent use is no problem

During shaft turning, the oil pump operates normally; if there is a thrust oil pump as well, it needs to be started as well. During the shaft turning process, the shaft vibration should be monitored, and no abnormalities indicated mean everything is normal. Regular shaft turning is beneficial for equipment that has been out of use for a long time. If the top shaft oil pump fails, it is necessary to turn the shaft manually and slowly; this requires a lot of force, but it is still possible to do so. Be sure to pay attention to the sounds coming from the shaft’s position.

To prevent the shaft from bending due to gravity when it remains stationary for a long time, it is stipulated that the shaft must be turned periodically. Our company requires that the vehicle be turned 90° once a week when parked for an extended period of time. When turning the crank, be sure to start the oil pump, and it must rotate in the same direction as the compressor. Please pay attention to these two points.
We have four reciprocating compressors driven by gas engines, and for shaft turning, I always require them to start the pre-lubrication pump first before carrying out the shaft turning.
