In the circulating water system of the coking plant, the water turned red; initially, it was thought to be corrosion, which led to an excessive iron content. However, after testing, the total iron content in the circulating water was less than 0.5. With such low total iron levels, the color of the circulating water won’t be so dark. May I ask, apart from total iron, what other factors can cause the circulating water system to turn red? By the way, when testing total iron and sodium sulfite was added, the color of the circulating water turned colorless. These must be the phenomena where sodium sulfite converts trivalent iron into divalent iron, right? But why can’t it be detected?

It seems that the sediment in the circulating water has come loose, which is why the water has turned red. I noticed that the amount of floating sediment on the columns of our circulating water cooling towers has decreased significantly; in the water itself, it appears red (earthy-colored).
Have you tested the composition of the attached mud? Does it contain corrosion products?
We haven’t added any water from industrial production to our circulation pool for a month; a small amount was added in an emergency a few days ago, and in less than 10 minutes rust and mud in the pipes caused the entire pool to turn red. It was cleaned just less than 2 months ago.
