What is the service life of a Mettler PH electrode? for fermentation
It depends on the pH and temperature at the site, as well as the way in which the personnel on site maintain the electrodes; it’s difficult to estimate, and even the electrode manufacturers cannot provide any guarantees. Last week I met a friend whose company had been using desulfurization equipment for almost a year – a little less than a year, actually – and they were using E+H PH electrodes

The performance and service life of ion-selective electrodes are influenced by various factors such as their application conditions, environment, sample characteristics, and maintenance practices. They are also closely related to the operator’s chemical knowledge, particularly their knowledge and experience in electroanalytical chemistry. I can render ineffective those electrodes that claim to have a lifespan of several years within three hours (without using any mechanical means of damage), and I can also, through appropriate solutions, extend the lifespan of some electrodes that seem unsuitable for long-term use under certain conditions. It is just as unscientific as simply stating a person’s lifespan without considering their living environment and conditions. Regarding the pH electrodes used for fermentation in the Mei family’s operations, since sterilization and disinfection are carried out regularly during the fermentation process, the lifespan of these electrodes is related to such regular sterilization and disinfection procedures, as well as to the maintenance of the electrodes. Generally, after half a year of use, its performance will decline significantly, in terms such as response time and stability.
Well, thank you so much! ! ! Generally, the pH during fermentation is around 6-7. This client isn’t very good at maintaining PH, so I’d like to know more details about it
I agree with you; it seems that maintenance is very important, and more effort should be put into it in the future.
Which model are you thinking of? Is it 4800? Half a year to one and a half years is considered normal, depending on the usage environment
Yes, does it need to be removed during the air disinfection of the fermenter?
