An explosion-proof membrane is a metal film installed on the top of pressure vessels to prevent them from exploding; it is a safety device. Also known as an explosion vent or rupture disc. If properly installed, metal rupture disks or bursting discs will not experience leakage from the sealing surface where they connect to the holder. Some rupture disks consist of multiple layers of metal with a PTFE seal; if the PTFE membrane is damaged, leakage will occur as well. Leakage caused by the corrosion of the diaphragm by the medium can occur in rupture discs that have been in use for a long time. Finally, it is believed that the damage was caused by tools coming into contact with the diaphragm surface during repairs. The burst disc itself is very thin and easily damaged.
