What are the advantages and disadvantages of using dual busbars?
The advantage is reliable power supply, while the disadvantage is high power consumption
Advantages of dual busbars: When a fault occurs in one of the busbars or in the switchgear connected to it, it is possible to promptly bring the backup busbar into use, thereby improving the reliability and stability of power supply； Disadvantages: The initial investment is high; for ordinary substation construction, it represents a waste of resources and is not cost-effective.
Advantages of this wiring method: (compared to a single busbar) it provides greater reliability in power supply, allowing for the maintenance of the busbars in turn without disrupting power supply. When a set of busbars fails, power supply can be restored by switching the circuits on the faulty busbars to another set of busbars. It also has the advantages of being easy to schedule, expand, and maintain. Its disadvantages are: (compared to a single busbar) an additional set of busbar isolators is required for each circuit, which increases the structure of the distribution apparatus as well as its floor space and investment costs; moreover, misoperations are likely to occur during switching operations to change the operating mode.
