The main uses of 1,3-propanediol are as follows: it is used as a monomer to synthesize new polyester materials together with phthalic acid——polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT)； Poly(naphthalenedicarboxylic acid PDO ester) (PTN) is synthesized via polycondensation with 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid ； Used to synthesize paint with excellent elasticity and hardness ； Used as a polymer plasticizer for thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) and PVC ； Synthetic food additive: propylene glycol acetate ； Synthesis of propylene carbonate (PC) ； There’s also the cosmetics industry, and so on. Among its uses, the most important one is in the synthesis of polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT); currently, this technology is largely controlled by American companies Shell and DuPont. In terms of performance, PTT fibers exhibit superior properties compared to polyester (PET) and nylon (PA6, PA66) fibers, giving them a clear competitive advantage. They can be widely used in the textile industry to produce high-quality clothing, as well as in the manufacture of carpets to enhance their resilience. Additionally, they can be used as engineering plastics and will gradually replace PET, PA6, and PA66 to become the new type of synthetic fiber in the 21st century.
