According to the latest statistical data released by Shaanxi Province, it is expected that in 2011 Shaanxi will become the largest oil and gas-producing province in the country. In 2011, Shaanxi Province stepped up its efforts in oil and gas exploration and development, investing 40 billion yuan in these activities; 22,510 wells were drilled, and oil and gas production continued to grow at a rapid pace. It is expected that the oil and gas equivalent for the whole year will exceed 50 million tons, possibly reaching 53.7 million tons – a 14.3% increase compared to the previous year – thereby enabling the province to become the largest producer of oil and gas in the country. Among them, crude oil production was 32.4 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.4% ； Natural gas production was 26.7 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 18.6%. Over the past year, a number of major energy and chemical conversion projects have made rapid progress; among them, the first phase of Yutianhua’s 1.4 million tons per year methanol production facility and the second phase of Beiyuan Chemical’s 1 million tons per year polyvinyl chloride production facility have been fully completed ； Projects such as the comprehensive clean conversion and utilization of Yuheng coal, the downstream deep processing of methanol and acetic acid from China Coal, and the industrial demonstration of coal-to-aromatics production by Huadian, exceeded their annual targets. Projects like the downstream processing of methanol at Shenhua Xiwang, the comprehensive utilization of coal, oil, and gas at Yanchang Xiwang, and Datang’s FMTP project have successively begun construction ； The Shenhua Dow Chemical Yulin circular economy coal comprehensive utilization project is nearing completion of its approval process. Meanwhile, Shaanxi has achieved significant success in innovation in the energy and chemical industries, with a number of advanced domestic and international technologies being put into practical use. Among them, HuanDian Group is utilizing the coal-to-aromatics technology with independent intellectual property rights developed by Tsinghua University to launch the construction of the world’s first pilot project for coal-to-aromatics production in Yulin ； The 1.8 million tons per year methanol and 600,000 tons per year olefins project built by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Group utilizes the DMTO-Ⅱ technology with independent intellectual property rights in China, and will become the first DMTO-Ⅱ demonstration plant in the country ； Yanchang Petroleum Group has introduced advanced American technology to develop a demonstration project for co-processing oil and coal, thus opening up a new path for the comprehensive utilization of resources. In addition, significant progress has been made in the Gasification of Shaanxi project; all cities (districts) in Shaanxi province now have pipeline gas supply, benefiting nearly 10 million people.
