I am working on a project abroad, and since the use of asbestos gaskets is not allowed there, it is required that all gaskets be replaced with metal-graphite ones. However, I don’t know anything about this type of gasket, so I’m seeking advice: Pipe diameter: 1/2” to 6”; Pipe material: S235JR (equivalent to Q235B in China); Operating temperature of the pipes: 160°; Operating pressure: PN10; Fluid flowing through the pipes: steam; Pipe flange standard: EN 1092-1; The flanges are of the RF type with a neck. Which metal should be chosen? (I’m not familiar with metals such as stainless steel or titanium.) Which type of gasket should be chosen? (I’m not familiar with things like inner rings, outer rings, etc.) Speed solution, thank you!
For this operating condition, a rubber gasket made of non-asbestos fibers will suffice; if a metal wound gasket must be used, one with only a carbon steel outer ring will work. If the caliber is very large, then it’s a different story!
The customer wants to use metal graphite – could you be more specific? The maximum pipe diameter is 6", thank you
It is a metal-wound gasket 304/graphite, with a carbon steel outer ring and a thickness of 4.5. Which series do you use for pressure ratings? CLASS?PN? GASKET, SPIRAL, WOUNDED, 304/GRAPH, OR: CS, 4.5T, RF (pressure rating and standard need to be specified). If the foreigner still requests an inner ring, then it’s a 304 inner ring; IR: 304
The pressure rating is PN, according to DIN standards (I’m not entirely sure of the specifics). I just checked and it uses a CG type, which should be the type you’re referring to (no inner ring required). So, what about the material? Outer ring: CS, thickness 3.2T. Intermediate seal: 304 + flexible graphite. Is the thickness 4.5T after sealing? Thank you
PN10? Using a metal wound gasket is a bit excessive. GASKET, SPIRAL, WOUNDED, PN10, 304/GRAPH, OR: CS, 4.5T, RF + DIN standards. Writing it this way will do; the connection interface is RF, right? If using the HG standard, it should be HG20610
Thank you. In Europe, the use of asbestos gaskets is now prohibited, as they are said to be toxic and harmful to human health; therefore, metal-graphite gaskets have been used instead~
Asbestos is also prohibited in China these days, though the regulations aren’t that strict; anyway, the rules here aren’t very strict. Hehe, if the regulations were stricter, there wouldn’t be so many accidents. There’s also metal graphite, as well as high-strength graphite gaskets reinforced with 304 material
