During measurement with this transmitter, the pressure suddenly dropped to negative levels; after closing the shut-off valve, the negative pressure value continued to decrease and remained negative. What’s the reason?
After ruling out process-related issues, it’s basically a problem with the pressure transmitter; perform a pressure calibration!

Take it apart to check the diaphragm, and then verify to see if it can be adjusted

Based on the signs, it can’t be said that there is a problem with the pressure transmitter! Because the negative pressure is decreasing after the shut-off valve is closed! Further examination is generally required to clarify the issue.
Under normal circumstances, the pressure transmitter should show a value equal to the pressure in the pipeline. Check whether there are any other pressure gauges or transmitters on that pipeline, and compare the pressure values; if they are equal, then everything is normal, and instrument or process-related faults can be ruled out; If it’s different, then things get complicated. Check whether there is any leakage in the components from which the pressure transmitter draws its readings, or in the pressure conduits; if none of those issues exist, then the problem lies with the transmitter itself. After removing it and powering it on, it should display the atmospheric pressure value – if not, there’s something wrong!
