The motor is wired in a three-phase four-wire system with one wire connected to ground; is it then necessary to ground the motor’s casing as well?
It is highly necessary; the grounding inside the junction box serves as a short-circuit protection mechanism in case the wires come loose, and it is also a functional grounding. Enclosure grounding is used to prevent electric shock in the event of leakage current; it serves as a protective grounding.
