What are the requirements for carbon ring seals?

Who knows the requirements for manufacturing carbon ring seals? Should the inner diameter of the seal ring that comes into contact with the shaft be slightly larger than the shaft, slightly smaller, or equal to it?
0.30～0.45mm
Carbon ring seals are mainly used in those types of equipment; are there any special requirements regarding the medium?
It is used in centrifugal compressors, and a carbon ring protector must be used during installation and removal.
It’s a bit larger than the shaft diameter, but both the diameter and temperature play a role; those with smaller diameters aren’t as large as 0.35 either. For our turbine shafts with a diameter of around 76 mm, at a temperature of 320 degrees, the clearance is approximately 0.20. The leakage amount is still somewhat high
It is more commonly used in centrifugal compressors. The inner diameter is slightly larger than that of the journal; depending on the clearance of different units, carbon ring protectors are used during installation.
The carbon ring and the journal are in a clearance fit, and the amount of this clearance depends on the material of the spindle, its size, as well as the operating temperature!
