Hydrogenation units are mainly used for refining, cracking, and reforming. The main function of refining is to remove impurities, with the molecular structure of the raw material remaining essentially unchanged. In contrast, cracking not only removes impurities but also alters the molecular structure of the raw material, turning large molecules into smaller ones. Modification mainly involves upgrading the product to meet the user’s requirements, such as increasing the cetane number and reducing the freezing point and density. Hydrogenation can be carried out using either a single-tower process or a two-tower process; the single-tower approach tends to result in water contamination in the product, which is why it is less used in new facilities nowadays.
To be honest, if you’re not familiar with these issues, I suggest you first read books on hydrogenation units and oil refining, such as those by Li Dadong and Fang Xiangchen; they should be helpful to you. At the moment, the hydrogen sulfide stripping tower and the distillation tower are not merged, nor can they be merged. First, you need to understand what function each tower serves; it’s not something that can be done simply by combining them! Read the book yourself to find out what high and low oil levels are. . . . . . Of course, it’s good to ask questions!
