As the title suggests, when our company uses single-screw pumps to handle sludge, leakage of sludge occurs at the coupling area; this problem becomes more severe over time. We hope that experienced users can provide some analysis on this issue
Switching to an industrial hose pump for sludge discharge is excellent – it has no leaks and requires little maintenance.
Replacing the equipment is a bit of an overreaction; presumably the company isn’t willing to replace everything, and with the poor market conditions, it’s quite difficult
This issue is a form of failure due to dry grinding of the friction pair in mechanical seals, where sludge deposits enclose the internal seal, preventing the heat generated by friction from being dissipated. If you have the technical skills, modify the double-end face seal to use circulating water. Or find a manufacturer to make one. It still costs money. One method is to use clean water to circulate inside the pump for about 10 minutes after each time sludge is pumped out.
