For wear resistance, it depends on the solid content of your material as well as the size of the solid particles. Generally, rubber lining is used in two layers for shafts, and in three layers for mixers! Of course, this isn’t fixed; it depends on the circumstances!

The purpose of lining with rubber is to prevent corrosion. But since you say the container and the shaft are made of the same material, has the container been treated? If the medium does not require corrosion protection, then there is no need for bearing grease either!
