Can the mechanical seal of the LC200/410 centrifugal pump be replaced with a packing seal (for a medium that is an alkaline solution capable of absorbing NH3)? If so, what material should be used, and what considerations should be taken into account?

As for the centrifugal pump itself, it can generally be equipped with a packing seal. However, the packing seal must allow some leakage; it depends on whether the site permits it.
To prevent salt formation, alkaline solvents that absorb ammonia can also produce crystallines. Given current environmental regulations, packing seals should be used as little as possible.
How alkaline is it? Can medium leakage hurt people? Packing seals will inevitably cause leaks; how can environmental concerns be addressed? Although packing seals can reduce the costs associated with purchasing mechanical seals, their lower frequency of maintenance also means savings.
In cases where the concentration is low, the functional requirements are modest, and the device isn’t used very frequently, there aren’t many problems; it just requires more cleaning and occasional maintenance. However, for pumps that are used in key processes, it’s better not to use them, even if there is a backup pump available, as the frequency of repairs would be too high and it’s not cost-effective.
Filling seal replacements are not an option, as mechanical seals are designed to minimize leakage and have a longer service life, which is why they are used in place of filling seals. If your mechanical seal is not durable, you can contact the manufacturer to have one made from a different material.
