Experts: What are the existing mature coking wastewater treatment processes in China (including advanced treatment methods that ensure the effluent quality meets the requirements for reuse in cooling water systems)? What is the actual performance? Who are the technology suppliers? Thank you!

Coking wastewater is a long-standing challenge in the wastewater treatment industry. Xiao Ming has been involved in several projects related to coking wastewater, carrying out relevant pilot and scale-up tests. To be honest, up to now Xiao Ming has not found a process system that is economically viable, technically reliable, and stable in operation. Additionally, there is an environmental protection company in Hangzhou that claims to specialize in dealing with coking wastewater (the name of the company cannot be disclosed), but many of the projects it has undertaken are far from satisfactory. . .
I have implemented a system that includes an oil separator, air flotation, AO process, BAF, and activated carbon; the ammonia nitrogen level in the effluent is difficult to control, while the COD level is fine. We can discuss this together

Coking wastewater is one of the more difficult types of wastewater to treat. Pre-treatment and biological treatment are the common methods used for ammonia removal, oil removal, as well as processes such as AO and sedimentation; when implemented properly, these methods can reduce COD levels to around 150. As for advanced treatment, there are various processes available, such as Fenton’s reagent, ozone oxidation + BAF, ozone oxidation + BAC, coagulation sedimentation + BAF + BAC, coagulation sedimentation + SMF, etc. It seems that no process has proven to be particularly effective in this context. On a related note, MBR cannot be considered an advanced treatment method; it falls under the biological treatment stage and is still classified as a secondary treatment process
Coking wastewater is difficult to treat, mainly due to the high treatment costs and the limitations in what enterprises can afford. To treat coking wastewater effectively requires significant upfront investment and high treatment costs; the cost per ton of water can be as much as ten yuan or more. Given the limited financial capacity of enterprises, issues such as substandard treatment and illegal discharge occur.
