I am currently working on designing a shell-and-tube heat exchanger for use with air and water. The air has an inlet temperature of 500°C and an outlet temperature of 150°C, while the water has an inlet temperature of 60°C and an outlet temperature of 90°C. The water flow rate is 125 T/H. May I ask about the pressure on the air side? If it is close to atmospheric pressure, then there is no need to use a shell-and-tube heat exchanger.

Since the main thermal resistance in gas-water heat exchange lies on the air side, and the tube bundle of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger does not have any extended surfaces on that side, it is entirely unsuitable for use in heat exchangers that handle heat transfer between air and water. It is recommended to use a finned tube heat exchanger. If it’s convenient, please let me know the parameters and I can help you with the design.
