Is it feasible to use a gas mass spectrometer to measure trace water in methane chlorides? Which organization has used it?
Infrared moisture analysis could be considered; moisture absorbs light at 2000nm

It was tested using a thermal conductivity detector, but the results obtained in this way were not as accurate as those obtained with a Karl Fischer moisture meter! The moisture content in chloromethane is typically determined using the Karl Fischer method. . .
The weird puppet didn’t make it clear: it’s fine to use the Karl Fischer method for measuring finished chloromethane, but our control system contains hydrogen chloride, chlorine gas, and other impurities, so the results obtained using the Karl Fischer method are very poor – it’s simply not possible to get accurate measurements. In particular, hydrogen chloride and chlorine have an impact on it. Who has done this before? Please share your insights. Thank you!
If chlorine is present, the Karl Fischer method indeed isn’t suitable, but chromatography is also not appropriate as it will corrode the equipment
The phosphorus pentoxide method, the UK’s T&C and Germany’s AQUATRACE online moisture meters – those should work.
