Our factory is holding a skills competition, and one of the tasks is steam fire extinguishing. I haven’t used steam to extinguish fires in my two years at the company; I know roughly how to do it, but I’m not familiar with the details. In skill competitions, it’s the details that matter. So I’m asking the experts here for advice on how to do this; it would be great if specific steps and precautions could be provided. After the main fire steam pipe leaves our plant, there is a hose connected behind the valve.
1. Personal protection: Heat-resistant gloves and splash-proof masks are essential. 2. Open the steam valve: Do so slowly to allow any remaining water to drain; use your foot to hold down the strap to prevent it from moving, and depending on the type of material on fire, do not use water to extinguish a liquid fire. 3. Unfold the strap to avoid it being folded and compressed. 4. Enter from the upwind direction, keeping a certain distance from the fire; aim at the base of the flames and sweep back and forth as you move forward
