Is the production of EPS (polystyrene) harmful to human health? What are the main hazards?
EPS (polystyrene) is harmful to the human body, primarily causing liver damage.
For processing plants alone, there are no major issues; generally, styrene residues are tested when PS leaves the factory. The dust problem can be mitigated by wearing a mask. It matters what kind of processing is done in your company, what raw materials are used, and what additives there are; it’s best to provide detailed information.
In any chemical manufacturing process, there are no devices that are harmless to the human body. Those involved in the chemical industry are surely aware of the hazards associated with styrene; among the intermediates produced during its polymerization process, oligomers pose the greatest threat, so be careful.
