Dear experts: What are exothermic reactions of high intensity, moderate intensity, and low intensity? Are there any clear data or concepts to use for making a judgment?
Whether heat is released depends mainly on whether the total energy of the reactants is greater than that of the products: if the total energy of the reactants is greater than that of the products, heat is released; if it is less, heat is absorbed. No specific threshold value has been specified.
I really haven’t seen the specific numerical value for the limit. I’ve encountered this before: a device’s main reaction releases 600,000 kcal of heat per hour, and our chief engineer said that this is a highly exothermic reaction. I guess it’s all just estimates; I haven’t heard of any specific boundaries.
