C---E: Pre-filter – how should “pre” be translated?
The pre-filter should be called Pre-filter. In my personal opinion. :)
pump inlet filter, pump suction filter – filter located before the pump; x*nstrument upstream filter – filter located before the instruments; this could serve as a reference
The certainty depends on the context of use, so there are various translations available; terms such as Pre- or former can be used, for example Pre-mounted, and so on.
If it is installed on the pipeline before the pump, it can be called an in-line filter at the suction side.
