A core-equipped manhole features an additional core plate inside the manhole cover, with a curvature matching that of the tank wall, and it is level with the tank wall. To facilitate opening and closing, a rotating arm and lifting lugs are also installed on the opening, integrated with the tank body; during operation, the manhole cover remains attached to the oil tank. Manholes for internal floating roof oil tanks are generally provided in at least 2 numbers: one located about 700 mm above the tank bottom, used for cleaning the tank and allowing maintenance personnel to enter ; One is located about 2400 mm from the bottom of the oil tank, and is used for operators to board the floating deck. Compared to floating roof tanks, the cylinder that connects the manhole of a tank with a core to the tank wall in conventional tanks passes through the tank wall; such manholes are not conducive to the lifting and sealing of the floating deck.
I’m also just starting to do this. The instructor also mentioned the issues related to the placement of the two manholes; I can’t find exactly what it says in the tank standards.

What’s the point of this? It’s to allow the internal floating roof to pass through the manhole easily; the gap needs to be large enough – it shouldn’t be too small – so as to prevent the manhole cover from not being able to be opened
I have seen manholes on mixing tanks that also have a core; their purpose and function must be different from those suggested by the previous speakers.
