Heat exchanger design process

With the help of some friends, I have compiled the information; the design process for heat exchangers is as follows: first, use tables to estimate the overall heat transfer coefficient, then calculate the heat transfer area, select an appropriate series of heat exchangers, and finally use software such as HTRI to determine K and A. Is this the correct design process?
Isn’t the heat transfer area A? I’m trying to solve it too – are there no experts?
