. . . I actually learned it before, but I’ve forgotten it all. . However, light signals don’t seem to require a loop; a single optical cable can be used for multiplexing, and the principle behind this is the reflection of light, with the light rays reflecting and traveling forward inside the cable. Only one optical cable is needed to transmit data.
No circuit is needed, but many require two wires, one for transmission and one for reception. I heard that there are also ones that can transmit and receive data using just one core.
