For boiler feed water pumps equipped with packing seals, how should the amount of cooling water supplied to the packing be determined, and what are the requirements regarding the water temperature of the inlet and outlet water? The temperature of the cooling water entering the system should not exceed 30 degrees, while the temperature of the boiler feed water is around 104 degrees. In order to save water, I would like to reduce the flow rate of the cooling water as much as possible. What range is appropriate for the temperature of the cooling water exiting the system?
Generally, the temperature rise of the water in a cooler should be kept within 8-10°C to ensure effective cooling.
Temperature rise of 8-10°? Why does it seem like it’s the temperature rise requirement for the heat exchanger during the compressor season? Can this range be increased a bit more?
Part of the sealing water must enter the pump; generally, condensed water is used, or at least desalinated water. The temperature of this water is around 40 degrees. The outlet water temperature has not been considered; we usually observe the dripping condition and measure the bearing temperature.
Sealing water? This is the first time I’ve heard of it; I’ve only heard of seal oil before. What kind of pumps are sealed water used in?
You can control the amount of cooling water by tightening the packing while monitoring its leakage; if there is slight leakage from the packing, that’s about right!
For the boiler feed water pump, a DG-type double-support pump, the packing cooling water enters through an opening at the bottom of the packing box and exits through an opening on the upper side, thus creating a flow of water; it is not the type of packing seal used in cantilever pumps. It is designed specifically to cool the stuffing box area; the temperature of the boiler feed water is around 104 degrees……
