According to a document I read, flat-welded flanges cannot be welded directly to seamless elbows; there must be a straight pipe section in between. May I ask, fellow sailors, what is the reason for this?
For flat welding, it is necessary to insert the welding tool inside; the reducers are already short in length. With high-pressure flanges that have a high neck, this problem does not exist
What was said upstairs is correct! It’s just that the large and small ends simply can’t fit in!
Flanges welded flat or socket-welded can be connected using reducer sleeves; these reducers are longer than the large and small ends, and they come with a short section of pipe that can be welded to the flange.
I believe the main reason is stress. . . There is a requirement in the regulations; I’ve forgotten which one exactly, but such a rule definitely exists. . . .
For the same reason that this butt-weld flange cannot be connected directly to an elbow, everyone will understand once they go to the site.
The original poster simply searched for images online; after looking at them, everything became clear. If it’s a butt-welded flange, it can be connected directly, I guess

Perhaps there are regulations in the book \"Design of Pressure Piping and Engineering Examples\"; as for why, it might be related to stress~~ Especially for elbows with large radii, it seems that the design requirements cannot be met. :D
