Recently, the valves purchased by our company that are operated using turbine drives often suffer damage to their turbine heads. The supplier says that the quality of the cast iron used is inadequate; cast steel is required, but its price is high. Could everyone please share the principles for selecting valves as well as names of manufacturers that produce high-quality products?
Valve materials: steel is definitely better than cast iron. Gray cast iron and malleable cast iron are typically used in temperatures ranging from -15 to 250 degrees, and their pressure ratings are not high; in such cases, it’s better to choose cast steel
Transmission gears made of cast iron are not wear-resistant; they can sometimes get worn flat, especially the first few gears when opening or closing. This is because valves with turbine-driven mechanisms generally require considerable effort to operate, particularly during opening or closing. However, you can set conditions for the valve manufacturer to change the material.
I’m not sure what structure your valves have – are they hemispherical valves? Butterfly valve? We are currently using hemispherical valves from a company in Henan, and their quality is good.
What is the operating environment like, what is the switching frequency, and is it for a special purpose? Even cast-iron turbines shouldn’t fail in a short period of time. If this happens, it can only be said that there is a problem with the valve design by the manufacturer, as they failed to consider even such a simple issue.
The price of turbine heads isn’t too high; it won’t save that much money. It’s so troublesome to keep repairing and replacing them
Is the damage to the turbine head caused by excessive torque applied when opening the valve, or by the fact that a turbine housing of insufficient size was chosen?
Upon closer consideration, it seems that the manufacturer used insufficiently strong materials; the damaged part is the casing, and the transmission mechanism of the worm gear isn’t very effective either.
You can’t get good quality at a low price; good quality comes at a high cost. But if it breaks right after being bought, the quality is really terrible!
The quality is severely problematic; it’s all due to attempts to cut costs. The copper components inside have been replaced with F4 ones, which do not have sufficient strength: lol
