There are two operating conditions at the compressor inlet: Condition 1: pressure of 1 kilogram, temperature of 25 degrees, and a flow rate of 2500 standard cubic meters per hour of methane. Condition 2: Pressure of 1 kilogram, temperature of 25 degrees, flow rate of 2500 standard cubic meters per hour of methane, and 300 standard cubic meters per hour of hydrogen. With the same outlet pressure of the compressor, and a reciprocating compressor being selected, which operating condition should be taken as the rated condition? Does the relative molecular mass have an impact?
When calculating, pay attention to the adiabatic index and power; as long as there is sufficient power, the temperature should not exceed 150°C.
1. The rated flow rate for condition 2 is 2800, while it is 2500 for condition 1. Condition 2 is used as the design point, and the flow rate is adjusted through backflow in condition 1. 2. As long as the molecular weight is within a certain range, reciprocating pumps will function without problems. When the average molecular weights differ significantly, it becomes impossible to design the gas valve in a way that ensures proper functionality. For example, with the same compressor, if it operates for extended periods time handling pure hydrogen or pure nitrogen, it is not possible to meet the requirements in both cases; in such situations, it is highly likely that the gas valve will need to be replaced (though this is not absolute, and the gas valve manufacturer must determine whether compatibility is possible).
