Dear experts in this field, fixed-bed hydrogenation reactors generally operate with material flowing in from the top and out from the bottom. I would like to ask whether it is possible to modify them to use a feeding pattern where material flows in from the bottom and out from the top. If so, what are the considerations involved, and what changes need to be made?

For residue hydrogenation, the first protection reactor is of fixed-bed type, with material flowing in from below and out from above; there is also diesel liquid-phase hydrogenation, and its reactor also features material flow from below to above.
