According to Gansu Huamei Qingneng Coal Chemical Company, on March 25, 2026, the auxiliary control valve assemblies for the adsorption towers, which are key components of the company’s project for recovering and utilizing hydrogen from synthetic purge gases, have arrived one after another, and installation work has begun in full swing; thus, the construction of this project is now moving at an accelerated pace. The company strictly adheres to the overall construction schedule for the PSA project, focusing on key milestones such as purging and displacement, filler installation, airtightness testing, and commissioning, making full use of the construction window period prior to operation. Synchronize efforts among relevant personnel to carry out specialized inspections based on the “three checks and four determinations” framework for PSA projects, as well as provide comprehensive skill training throughout the entire process, ensuring that both project progress and talent development proceed in tandem. According to the International Hydrogen Energy Network, the Huating Huamei Clean Energy Synthesis Project for recovering hydrogen from vent gases aims to increase methanol production by extracting hydrogen from 5,000 m3/h of non-permeable gas in the vent gases of synthetic plants (with a hydrogen content of 58.9%), or to sell the produced hydrogen as a product. It is planned to install an additional PSA hydrogen extraction unit in front of the non-permeate gas pressure reducing valve in the methanol synthesis hydrogen recovery system. This unit will be used to recover and purify the hydrogen present in the non-permeate gas, yielding product hydrogen with a purity of ≥99.999% and a recovery rate of ≥75%. Such hydrogen can either be fed back into the methanol synthesis process to continue participating in the methanol synthesis reactions, or it can be sold as a product (with pipeline connections prepared for this purpose). This approach helps to save syngas and reduce waste of process gas. Huamei Qingneng Coal Chemical Company, part of Gansu Huating Coal Industry Group, uses multi-feed slurry gasification, wide-temperature sulfur-tolerant shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing, super Claus sulfur recovery, and Cassali IMC methanol synthesis to produce 600,000 tons of methanol per year. At the end of 2021, a 200,000-ton polypropylene plant was built using the FMTP technology jointly developed by Sinochem, Tsinghua University, and Huaohua Group; this was China’s first fluidized-bed methanol-to-propylene plant. Thereafter, system optimization and rectification were carried out, and polypropylene production resumed in 2023 after the rectification.
