Fushun Petrochemical focuses on optimizing production to increase petroleum coke output; as of February 20, through technical improvements to its production processes, Fushun Petrochemical has produced a total of 55,700 tons of petroleum coke this year. Even with a processing volume below the level of the same period, the company managed to maintain stable production, ensuring continued profitability for the enterprise. As an important raw material for high-end graphite electrodes, the price of petroleum coke has been rising steadily this year. Fushun Petrochemical seized market opportunities and organized a technical task force to implement a series of optimization measures while ensuring the processing volume of residue oil. In terms of optimizing raw material resources, the company has instructed the coking workshop at the Second Oil Plant to strictly control the density and residual carbon levels of the raw materials, and to incorporate catalytic slurry and electrodesalted waste oil into the mix in order to ensure a stable supply of mixed raw materials. In terms of production optimization, the task force precisely adjusted the amount of material drawn from each side stream, improved the distillation efficiency, strictly controlled the temperature at the outlet of the heating furnace to ensure an appropriate level of reaction depth, and appropriately increased the recycle ratio in order to boost the yield of petroleum coke. By blending feedstocks with high asphaltenic components, they further explored the potential to increase the yield of petroleum coke. In terms of product quality assurance, the coking workshop has carried out specialized efforts to address the quality risks associated with petroleum coke products, strictly controlling key parameters such as volatility, ash content, and sulfur content, thereby effectively stabilizing and improving the quality of petroleum coke. In addition, the workshop’s technical task force developed a control checklist for operating the coking unit at full capacity and increasing the production of petroleum coke. This checklist specifies the control measures, monitoring indicators, key milestones, and adjustment strategies related to optimizing the allocation of raw material resources, ensuring the appropriate processing volume of the unit, and optimizing production processes, thereby ensuring that the entire production process is optimized and under control.
The development of graphite electrodes has expanded the industrial chain of petroleum coke, which was previously a waste product from oil refining, thereby contributing to a circular economy.
