Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, December 18 (Reporter Qi Zhongxi) – Reporters learned from the China State Railway Group that on the 18th, with the completion of the installation of the first communication tower designed for shared use between public and dedicated networks as part of the Yongguang Railway project undertaken by China Railway Electrification Bureau Company 1, the first such tower in China’s railway network—one that was planned, designed, constructed, and put into operation simultaneously for both public and dedicated networks—was established in Yunnan. In the future, passengers on trains will be able to enjoy high-quality voice calls and seamless 4G network services. Gao Yi, the person in charge of the Central Yunnan Construction Command of China Railway Kunming Group, explained that in November this year, China State Railway Group and China Tower Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at providing better travel and networking experiences for passengers. The Yunnan Central Construction Command of China Railway Kunming Bureau Group and Company 1 of China Railway Electrification Bureau coordinated their efforts, conducted scientific evaluations, and integrated resources, thereby achieving for the first time in the country shared use of railway towers that permitted \"four simultaneous\" communications between public and dedicated railway networks. He said that shared communication towers address issues such as repeated investment in communication towers along railways and low utilization rates of cable trenches, and help promote resource conservation and environmental protection while ensuring the safety of railway transportation. The sharing of communication towers along the Yongguang Railway has enabled the integration of the existing railway dedicated network with public networks from China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, resulting in a single stable and reliable network. Bi Zhifeng, the person in charge of the Yongguang project at China Railway Electrification Bureau, said that the Yongguang Railway will enable the sharing of communication facilities such as tower structures at 5 stations along the line and steel tube towers at 3 base stations. This approach can save around 5 million yuan in construction costs, with each shared tower resulting in savings of over 600,000 yuan. The Yongguang Railway is an important part of the capacity expansion project for the Xinkun Railway; it has a total length of about 126 kilometers, and passenger trains traveling on this line can reach speeds of 160 kilometers per hour. Operation of this railway is scheduled to begin in 2019. By then, the travel time from Kunming to Chengdu will be reduced from the current 20 hours to around 7 hours.
