When tower-type containers are in the following situations, a conical skirt shell should be considered: 1) The design calculations require a large number of foundation bolts; it is difficult to arrange them in a cylindrical pattern, and it is necessary to maintain a certain spacing between the foundation bolts ; 2) The thickness of the skirt shell is sufficient, but the design calculations require an increase in the cross-sectional moment of inertia of the skirt shell ; 3) Due to the large wind loads on tower-type containers, the compressive stress on the concrete foundation beneath the skirt base ring exceeds its allowable limit; therefore, it is necessary to reduce the compressive stress acting on the top surface of the concrete foundation.
