Recently, I reviewed three PID designs for the recycle column in styrene plants; the process flows were essentially the same, but the column designs varied: one was of uniform diameter throughout, another had a larger diameter at the top and a smaller one at the bottom, and yet another had a smaller diameter at the top and a larger one at the bottom. Using process simulation software to calculate the tower with a thicker section at the top and a thinner section at the bottom revealed entrainment and flooding at the bottom of the tower, and the calculated position of the sensitive plate also did not match the design. May I ask experts in styrene plants what type of column is used on-site? Where is the sensitive plate?
May I ask where the main effects of adding benzene are manifested? I used Plus to simulate the benzene recovery tower, reducing the amount of supplementary benzene to 0 and increasing the reflux ratio; the product quality remained within acceptable standards, and the energy consumption at the bottom of the tower was also reduced. Why is it necessary to use supplementary benzene?
Fresh benzene can enter at two points: either directly into the circulating benzene column or directly into the light components removal column. The light component removal tower can achieve precise dehydration.
