A medium-boiling point reboiler is generally used in larger towers; introducing such a reboiler into an ethylene distillation tower helps to better maintain the thermal balance of the tower
It serves the same purpose as the reboiler at the bottom of the tower; it extracts the liquid from the middle part of the tower and then heats it for reboiling. Catalytic desorption towers generally are equipped with such intermediate reboilers, as this allows for a lower temperature level of the heat source required, thereby reducing the energy consumption of the unit through heat integration.
