As shown in the figure, when designing the OSLO crystallizer, is it better to place the pump inlet for drawing the crystal slurry on the left side as shown in the image, or on the right side?
In my personal opinion, when pumping from the left side, it’s possible to draw out the crystals that have not yet had time to grow inside the flow guide cylinder; the advantage of this is that blockages in the pipes are less likely to occur. On the right side, the pump draws in slurry with a higher concentration of crystals, which are larger in size. I’m curious to know how other experts design their systems
Well, usually a salted leg is added below, on the side.
It can also be installed at the bottom, but a leaching salt leg must be added at the lower conical head.
The right side is reasonable; the main purpose is to prevent pipe blockage
We mostly use the right side, and we’re not bound by conventions; for one project, the process package was designed with the inlet and outlet in reverse order, in order to increase the residence time
With continuous drawing at the bottom, it should be less likely for the pipes to get clogged as well
What are the advantages of doing this compared to drawing from the bottom?
One major advantage of Oslo is that the crystals can grow slowly and then be removed, resulting in larger crystals. So, crystals drawn from the upper part are larger.
