Bearing housing, oil return groove, air return groove

I noticed that on the bearing housings of pumps made by other manufacturers, there is an axial through-flow oil return groove at the very bottom of the bearing hole. This is intended to allow the oil that spills out to the outside of the rolling bearings to flow back into the oil reservoir, which makes sense. However, I also saw another groove in the same position at the very top of the bearing hole, one that resembles the oil return groove. What is the purpose of this groove?
