An accident drain pipe cannot empty the water from the drum. The function of the accident drain pipe is to urgently discharge the boiler water in the event of a full-liquid condition, or when there is boiling with steam or foaming, thereby quickly restoring the water level. The upper end of the accident drain pipe is located inside the steam drum, with its opening at the same level as the normal water level in the steam drum. Once the above situation occurs, quickly open the accident drain valve to discharge the excess water and restore the normal water level. Due to the phenomenon of boiler water floating at the accident drain holes, the water level can be lowered to a level slightly below the normal level, but the boiler water will not be completely drained. Although the water in the drum is not drained, once the emergency drain valve is opened, the water level must be closely monitored; as soon as the normal water level is restored, the emergency drain valve should be closed immediately. Otherwise, a large amount of saturated steam will be released through the accident drain pipe, which not only causes unnecessary losses of working fluid and heat but also reduces the amount of steam entering the superheater, posing a threat to the safety of the superheater.
