Everyone should pay attention to safety and know how to handle emergencies. ********************************************* On June 16, 2023, the loop reactor for the 500,000-ton/year high-density polyethylene (HDPE) production unit of the Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Project, which was designed and manufactured using modular approaches by Maoming Gravity Petrochemical Equipment Co., Ltd., was loaded onto a ship at the Maoming Petrochemical Port. This is the largest loop reactor in the world to adopt an integrated modular design for manufacturing, transportation, and lifting, setting a precedent for the modular design, manufacturing, transportation, and lifting of loop reactors. The Tianjin Nangang ethylene project is a key project under the 14th Five-Year Plan. The loop reactor of the 500,000 tons per year HDPE production facility is a critical piece of equipment for this project; the HDPE produced can be used to manufacture high-end products such as food-grade materials, gas pipeline materials, and large-diameter anti-sag pipes. Mao Ming Gravity, Sinopec Tianjin Branch, Sinopec Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. (SEI) and other relevant parties worked together closely; after thorough consideration, they devised and implemented an engineering plan for the modular design, manufacturing, and overall delivery and installation of the loop reactor in this HDPE plant. After half a year, Maoming Gravity successfully completed the manufacturing of two loop reactor units with high quality. The 500,000 tons/year HDPE plant is equipped with 2 loop reactors; the total height of these units is 76 meters, and their combined weight exceeds 1,400 tons. The weight and size of loop reactors present many challenges regarding modularization, factory-based delivery, and one-time lifting. Under the careful guidance of SEI, Maoming Gravity carried out modeling calculations and scheme design for the overall transportation and lifting of the equipment, and conducted repeated structural analysis calculations regarding the local stresses at the lifting points as well as the overall modeling for lifting. During the production phase, Maoming Gravity made every effort to accelerate the schedule, completing the manufacturing of the ring pipes 15 days ahead of schedule and delivering them successfully to the Tianjin Petrochemical Nangang Ethylene Project. By adopting new technologies, methods, and approaches, it was possible to reduce the construction period, improve quality and efficiency, and minimize risks.

Over the past 30 years, large-scale polypropylene/polyethylene loop reactors in China with capacities of 100,000–500,000 tons per year have been primarily supplied by Maoming Gravity, and these products have been exported.
