This marks the establishment of Tianjin’s first full-scale ecosystem for the production, storage, and utilization of hydrogen powered by renewable energy. This project was invested and constructed by Rongcheng New Energy Technology Group. It utilizes fishery-solar complementary photovoltaic power generation as the power source, and treated urban wastewater as the water source. The hydrogen production facility is capable of producing hydrogen with a purity of 99.999%, at a rate of 1,300 standard cubic meters per hour. The green hydrogen produced is supplied to Rongcheng’s hydrogen fuel cell trucks through a 1,000-kilogram capacity hydrogen refueling station. The oxygen generated as a by-product is used in the operations of Rongcheng’s steel plant. This approach results in zero consumption of fresh water, as well as zero emissions of wastewater and carbon dioxide, thus creating a complete closed-loop system for the production, storage, use of green hydrogen in the freight transport sector. Since the establishment and operation of Tianjin’s first hydrogen transportation demonstration site by Tianjin Rongcheng Group in August 2021, the group has built and put into use 4 hydrogen refueling stations. It operates 275 hydrogen fuel cell trucks, which have accumulated a total of about 1,300 tons of hydrogen consumption; these trucks have covered a distance of over 10 million kilometers and transported nearly 11 million tons of goods, resulting in the reduction of almost 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The group has successfully established three zero-carbon freight routes: “Tianjin Port – Rongcheng Steel Plant – Jinghai District clients”, “Tianjin Port – Xuyang Coking in Dingzhou, Hebei – Rongcheng Steel Plant”, and “Rongcheng Steel Plant – Baizhou, Hebei clients”. These routes provide a new driving force for the green and low-carbon transformation of bulk cargo transportation in ports and large industrial enterprises, thereby creating a strong demonstrative effect.
