With rapid on-site responses, excellent technical capabilities, and a highly responsible service attitude, Zhongtai Hai Carbon managed to provide the shipowners with an advanced integrated desulfurization and decarbonization system solution in less than 3 months. This delivery has a profound impact and significant importance for the sustainable development of global shipping. The onboard carbon capture system (OCCS) is the application of carbon capture technology in ships; it separates and captures CO2 from the exhaust gases or fuel emitted by ships, transports it to a destination for reuse or injects it into the seabed/strata for storage, thereby preventing it from entering the atmosphere and achieving permanent reduction of CO2 emissions from ships. OCCS makes it possible for ships to achieve significant carbon reduction by using mature and low-cost traditional fossil fuels, providing a viable path for the green and low-carbon development of the shipping industry. The world’s first bulk carrier carbon capture system (OCCS) to be put into use in this project was developed by Zhongtai Haihan (Shanghai) Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., and it was installed on the vessel modified by Jiangsu Huazi Energy Engineering Co., Ltd. for Victoria Shipping Company. This system is capable of meeting both the IMO’s requirements regarding desulfurization and decarbonization. Equipped with independently developed absorption solvent technology, it effectively reduces energy consumption during the separation process, thereby improving the overall energy efficiency index of the carbon capture system. In addition, the system is equipped with self-developed carbon capture control systems and monitoring systems to continuously monitor and record sulfur and carbon emission data. The system is equipped with wind power generation units, which not only enable zero consumption of electricity from the ship during operation for carbon capture, but also allow the ship to achieve negative carbon emissions.
