Recently, Toyo Engineering Corporation (Tokyo) announced that its proprietary urea granulation technology has been selected for Kazakhstan’s first urea plant project, which is planned by the fertilizer manufacturer KazAzot Prime LLP. Under this project, Toyo Engineering Corporation will act as the licensor of the urea granulation technology, responsible for providing technical licensing, process design packages, procurement of key equipment, and related technical services. The EPC of the project is handled by China Five Rings. The successful cooperation between Toyo Engineering Corporation and China Five Rings in previous projects played a key role in the decision to undertake this project in Kazakhstan (the Angola fertilizer plant project). The facility to be built marks a major milestone in Kazakhstan’s first urea production plant, with all the output intended for use as agricultural fertilizer. Project background: In July 2024, China National Chemical Fifth Ring Corporation, in collaboration with an international company and KazAzot Prime LLP, signed an EPC general contract for the ACC nitrogen fertilizer complex project. The signing ceremony was held during the SCO Summit, and the project was listed as one of the 15 key projects in Kazakhstan, holding significant political and strategic importance. As a key downstream application project for natural gas, the successful advancement of this urea plant signifies that Kazakhstan has entered a new phase in terms of the local utilization of natural gas resources and their use to create high-value products. This will generate ongoing market demand in the fields of oil and gas processing technologies, chemical equipment, and engineering services.
