Enameled reaction kettle: 3.5 meters in height * 2 meters in inner diameter; the stirring shaft is located at the center of the diameter, with the blades positioned below the bottom of the tank (horizontal type). Medium used for measurement: During feeding, it is similar to a solid-liquid mixture; 40% acetic acid (containing chloride ions) is added, and after stirring and extraction, the mixture separates into two layers – the upper layer is the acidic solution, while the lower layer consists of a sediment similar to jam. Measurement purpose: The thickness of the upper supernatant layer, in order to determine the insertion depth of the sampling tube. Note: Measurements can be taken after stirring has stopped and the layers have become clearly separated. I have considered float level gauges, ultrasonic depth meters, and Kollmorgen’s guided-wave radar level gauges, but none of them seem to be suitable solutions. Any experienced marine engineer who has dealt with similar situations would be greatly appreciated if they could share their insights; thank you very much~
A magnetostrictive level gauge will do; it can measure both the liquid level and the interface
It’s quite challenging; the upper layer is corroded, and the lower layer is too viscous. .
An RF admittance level transmitter plus ultrasonic level measurement to calculate the difference – that should work
The medium is corrosive; its density definitely changes during feeding as well as after stratification. It also has a certain degree of viscosity, so the magnetostrictive float may not float
Atmospheric pressure tank; sediment thickness of approximately 0.2~0.8 meters, upper liquid level thickness of about 2~2.5 meters. Flanges with DN50 size are installed at 1/4 of the tank’s diameter
Glass tubes or glass plates, it’s best to use a float to measure the liquid level. For viscosity, a large float can be used.
Are magnetostrictive level gauges that useful? Two units were used on site – why does it seem that accurate measurements cannot be obtained?
