STL.6 is likely a material specified in the AWS A5.13 welding material standard; by entering its standard data into the PMI gun database and scanning it against the surfacing material, the chemical composition data can be obtained. The quality of the surfacing layer depends on whether the surfacing process was carried out strictly.
Thank you, I found the appropriate welding material in SF5.13. When PMI testing is conducted after surfacing, the levels of corresponding elements change. For example, when STL.6 is surfaced onto WCB, the Fe content increases. Is this due to the dilution that occurs as a result of the fusion between the welding material and the base material?
I’m just starting out with welding, and I would like to ask the original poster: STL6 refers to the material, not the welding electrode. One has to look up similar information in ASME II C to find out what welding electrode is appropriate. In WPS, cannot the welding material code be written as STL6?
