I mainly work on the design and commissioning of surface facilities for oil and gas fields, and occasionally take on tasks related to the commissioning of refineries as well. Therefore, dynamic simulation might be more useful for me. In the past, Hysys’ advantage over Aspen lay mainly in its dynamic simulation capabilities; that’s why I kept exploring Hysys. To be honest, I’ve always had the determination to learn*, but I don’t take much action; I just follow the textbooks, learning materials, and the procedures established by design firms for simulation, without finding any real breakthroughs – I mostly end up imitating what others do. Time is a key factor. Things are not going well now, but finally I have plenty of time to learn * and improve. I suddenly realized that there is now much more learning material available for Aspen Plus compared to Hysys, and it seems that Aspen Plus can also be used for dynamic simulations. Question: What are the functional advantages and disadvantages of Aspen Plus compared to Aspen Hysys? Is there a big difference in usage? Shouldn’t the two be related through analogy? If I focus solely on onshore oil and gas field operations (oil field processing and crude oil transportation, gas field processing and transportation, including wastewater treatment and steam generation, etc.), do I necessarily have to switch to Plus?
It focuses on onshore oil and gas field engineering (oil field processing and crude oil transportation, gas field processing and transportation, including wastewater treatment and steam generation, etc.). These are HYSYS’s strengths; it’s not as straightforward to handle them in Plus.
Thank you for the reply! I just watched a video about the absorption by molecular sieve beds, a dynamic simulation. The molecular sieve dehydration process commonly used in the natural gas processing industry is also employed; it was a function that I spent a long time looking for. In this video, it is implemented using the Absorption module of Adsim in Aspen Plus. I’m not sure if Hysys has a similar function.
HYSYS doesn’t have it; this isn’t either Aspen Plus – it’s a separate product, Aspen Adsorption.
