On the 15th, the Chinese Central Committee and the State Council issued several guidelines on advancing reforms to the price mechanism. For the crude oil market, this will be a major opportunity. Through reforms of the price mechanism and accelerating the marketization of crude oil, it is of great significance for mitigating China’s risks associated with crude oil imports and enhancing energy strategic security.
Historical experience has repeatedly shown that the market is the most effective and rational means of allocating resources. And price, as the guiding force of the market, plays an extremely important role. If we do not carry out market-based reforms of prices, our resource allocation will remain distorted, which is also detrimental to our country’s energy security. Although there are still many obstacles to the marketization reform of crude oil in the country at present, there are already signs of progress.
Prices have been made market-driven and enterprises have been privatized; it’s just unclear whether our managers already possess the skills needed to navigate these changes.
